The ORBIS BIBLICUS ET ORIENTALIS series publishes scientific monographs and anthologies on Old Testament studies, as well as on Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Near Eastern cultural and religious history.
Orbis Biblicus et Orientalis was founded in 1973 by Othmar Keel on behalf of the Biblical Institute at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. It was expanded in 1980 by SERIES ARCHAEOLOGICA. With studies on the textual history of the Old Testament and on Ancient Near Eastern iconography, glyptic art in particular, the series takes into account two research emphases of that region.
Since its founding, Orbis Biblicus et Orientalis has attached great importance to international appeal: the authors come from over thirty countries and all continents; volumes are published in German, French, and English.
ORBIS BIBLICUS ET ORIENTALIS has belonged to the Bible+Orient Foundation since 2005. It is supported by the Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für orientalische Altertumswissenschaft and the research departments of the Universities of Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Lausanne, and Zurich.
All OBO volumes are accessible on Zora open access.
